Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about registering your new company in South Africa.
What do I need to register a new company?
You simply need a clear copy of your South African ID (certified within the last 3 months), a physical address for the business, and 4 name choices in order of preference.
How long until my company is fully registered?
Timing depends on name approval, director verification, complete documents and CIPC queues. We cannot guarantee the authority's completion date.
Do I have to do my own SARS registration?
No. When we register your company, CIPC automatically communicates with SARS to issue your company's Income Tax Number. We provide this to you along with your business papers.
Are there any hidden annual fees?
We charge a once-off fee for registration. However, you must be aware that all South African companies are legally required to file an 'Annual Return' to CIPC every year (which costs around R100+ depending on your turnover) to stay active.
What is a B-BBEE Affidavit?
An Exempted Micro Enterprise (EME) B-BBEE affidavit is a sworn statement confirming your turnover is under R10m and declaring your black ownership percentage. It serves as your official BEE certificate for tenders.
Can foreigners register a company in SA?
Yes. CIPC allows non-residents to be directors. We will need a certified copy of your passport instead of a South African ID. Processing times may be slightly longer for verification.
